Is there anywhere else in Jerusalem as lovely as historic Yemin Moshe? When I first arrived to Israel in 2017, I was led to this special neighborhood in Jerusalem, told this was a haven for artists, who found the greatest pleasure in waking up early for sunrise above the Dead Sea, and watching the sun set behind the quaint 19th century windmill at the heart of the community. In my landscapes, I often include the Yemin Moshe windmill and was thrilled when two scenes depicting this windmill were selected for a yearlong exhibition in 2020 at Mayor Moshe Lion’s government office in Safra Square.
Picturesque townhouses cover an entire hillside. The entire neighborhood overlooks the Old City walls of Jerusalem. In all seasons, the neighborhood comes alive with flower boxes, bougainvillea and brides and grooms posing in full regalia for their wedding photographs. I hope one day you can come and visit. In the meantime, these scenes are offered to delight your imagination.
