English through Art Program
at Genesis art Lounge
Our goal
We offer a unique program that offers children of all ages with one or more English speaking family member a way to learn English through artistiic experiences that enrich and compliment language development. Through the beautifully illustrated Genesis Cards, children can enjoy using the imagination (right brain) in balanced coordination with speaking, reading and writing (left brain activities)
The facility
Genesis art Lounge is well stocked with educational toys, games, puppets,
painting and pastel art supplies, sculptural material and more to stimulate
creativity. Our English library contains hundreds of books in English for
children of all ages and their parents too. Our chairs and table are ideal
for little people.
The curriculum is tailor-made for each family (activities vary upon
discussion of learning goals, expectations and needs)
Every session offers each of the following activities:
1) Discussion of art homework made the following week (conversation and
writing skills) and reading a book that may relate to a child's art
2) Practice reading and writing at a level suited for each child (Hooked on
Phonics series is the reading system we use and recommend)
3) The Genesis Cards are central to the way art is taught at Genesis art
Lounge. They are used in games like `Slap Me Down` and `Matching Pairs` and
`Guess Whatfs Under?' to teach counting, color, shape, object
recognition and speaking skills.
4) Drawing and Painting with the Genesis Cards - The cards offer colorful
playful images that stretch a childfs imagination. Children start by picking a
favorite card, describing what they see in the card, and then making a
picture that stretches what they see beyond the imagery. Pictures are then
described by the children in words that they will write down themselves.
Our staff at Genesis art Lounge
All our teachers are highly experienced teachers of children. In addition
they have been trained by Liane Wakabyashi, Genesis art Lounge owner and
creator of the Genesis Cards. Liane has a long career in Japan starting with
editing for the Japan Times in 1987, working as a freelance writer for this
newspaper and travel magazines such as JAL Winds and ANA Wingspan, teaching
English to returnees at the private Gakushuin Girl's School (1995-1997) and
more recently since the birth of Liane's children (Mirai 1997 and Seiji
2002), working as an early childhood educator primarily in the medium of
puppetry and tutoring children in reading. As the mother of a dyslexic
child, Liane's daughter Mirai is the inspiration for all that Liane offers
in her creative 'right brain' approach to reading and writing. By focusing
on a child's creative strengths and limitless imagination, she believes that
all children can put words to work for them.
Fees
Lounge library annual membership fee: 3,500
Monthly tuition: Four one-hour sessions per month; 24,000
Four 30-minutes sessions per month: 12,000
Class hours
All classes are private sessions held at Genesis art Lounge at the
convenience of participating families. Classes schedules are arranged
monthly on a designated day and hour each week.

Outdoor Painting Camp at Genesis art Lounge
When: August 4, 6, 7 and 8 (four days)
Time: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Where: Genesis art Lounge, 1-23-15 Kyodo (nearest station is Kyodo station on the Odakyu line-20 minutes from Shibuya or 11 minutes from Shinjuku)
Outdoor painting camp give preteens and teenagers the peaceful experience of drawing, painting and connecting with some of the most beautiful nature spots in Setagaya ward.
Over 4 days, campers will visit gardens, temples parks and other beautiful places to experience drawing and painting through the Genesis Cards, a colorful and playful deck of cards that helps artists of all ages discover their own language for drawing and painting pictures through the imagination. Even shy children will discover they have something important to say and share in this relaxed and friendly group setting.
Each day begins with a nature outing with backpacks filled with art supplies and ends back at Genesis art Lounge where campers will learn about mixing colors, using brushes, painting on paper and canvas, painting from the imagination as well as directly from nature.

Our fully equipped studio can accommodate up ten campers. No special artistic abilities are required but campers can expect to enhance drawing and painting skills, learn how to work with vibrant colors, gain confidence and the exciting feeling of communing not only with nature but with one's own artwork.
Note: In the event of heavy rain, some outdoor classes may be rescheduled to indoor settings where nature still can be deeply experienced. Bring a bag lunch and water thermos daily.
How much: 24,000 for four day camp (5,000 materials fee includes Genesis Way Cards and Experiential Guidebook).

Genesis Family Workshops
For parents and children of all ages - enrich feelings of closeness through shared creativity and discussion. Younger children can do art or play in the adjacent play area. Our excellent selection of toys ensures that you can relax in full view of busy-at-play children.
