I want to experience them all! This year was no exception and Liane’s workshop, “Explore Your Creativity through Intuition-the Genesis Way”, attracted the explorer in me! Liane Wakabayashi, who holds an MFA in Arts Administration from Columbia University, has developed a unique approach to creating intuitive art. With a deck of creativity cards she illustrated and an accompanying guidebook she wrote, Liane inspires people to explore intuitive art. And at her Genesis Art Lounge in Tokyo (http://genesiscards.com), people can learn and practice it through various classes, workshops and retreats. Liane was assisted at the convention workshop by Nicole Mizoguchi, a visionary artist (www.nicolemiz.com). I had not heard of the Genesis Way before nor had I a clear understanding of what ‘intuitive art’ meant. This challenge to learn something new was, of course, inviting! So, what did I find out? I will start by describing what we did.The mood was calm, relaxing and unhurried throughout the two hour workshop. Before we began, we were given a packet of various colored pieces of paper . . . from that selection we were to assign a color randomly to each member of our family without belaboring that choice. We then had to choose a card from the deck. Without looking at its face, we inserted it into a plastic envelope that we wore around our necks. With this preparation and soft music to soothe us, we each began to create a collage. As we were gluing in our final pieces, Liane asked us to look at our thus-far hidden card, observe its title and illustration, and notice any commonalities between the shapes and colors depicted on the card and those of our collage. She talked to each of us individually round the room encouraging more exploration into our thoughts and feelings evoked by the comparisons that we were seeing. As we examined our collages carefully, the colors we had attached to people in our lives, the shapes we cut from those colors and their placement in the collage began to take on meaning. The room became animated with soft cries of surprise and lively discussion with our neighbors. Liane invited us, one at a time to exhibit our collages. We displayed the card we had chosen and our collage on an easel for all to see. We talked about how we had produced the collage, the choices we had made, the colors (people) that had been highlighted and what the collage meant to us. It was remarkable how many visual similarities there were between our collages and the cards we had chosen. And as people began to speak, it became evident that the collages, indeed, evoked many thoughts and feelings about the people in our lives and our relationships with them. I enjoyed this exploration and made several discoveries: 1. Instead of creating a piece of art with preconceived intent, we did the opposite; we created art instinctively, spontaneously, enjoying the process and letting color and shape be our guide; 2. Our subconscious is powerful, has a good memory and is enlightening if we allow it to surface; 3. Having the opportunity to see all the members of my family (represented as colors) interacting with each other (as shapes) allowed me to think about the reality of our relationships, strengths and weaknesses; and 4. Taking time out of busy and mundane schedules to work with colors and shapes is as relaxing as a long, hot bath. Thank you, Liane, for escorting us into the very interesting world of intuitive art. Genesis art Lounge 2009-04-23T11:11:19+09:00 Amazing Collage Experience http://www.genesiscards.com/?no=r49 I am interested in fortune teller's forecast and after making appointments to do two sessions last month, Liane suggested that I try a Genesis art collage to see what message I could get from my higher self. Its nearly 1 year since I came to know about the Genesis art Lounge. I drop in from time to time to do art but until this experience, I have not used my intution this way. Nevertheless, I enjoy purely putting my emotions on paper. So I agreed to do the Collage work so that I could compare art from my own intuition with forecasts given by the other tellers.I wanted to see how far I could look into my unconsciousness/ consciousness with her method. The Genesis collage method works like this:1 Pick a card from the shuffled deck of Genesis cards and hide it somewhere.2. Select the subjects you are interested in (family, work, health etc).Select one coloured background paper and then cut origami paper (one color for each subject you selected)and then cut into any shape you like.3. Glue the cut origami paper onto the background paper. That's all you have to do !Quite easy.I did this without thinking and even chatting with other people sitting next to me.I was not sure at this stage what I could obtain from doing this. After I felt the picture was complete, I checked the hidden card and it was the picture with dolphins: 'Caring Communication' as show in the photo.I can not describe what message I got since it is such a private matter but the dolphin's fin was in a shape very similar to one of paper's I'd cut out.Liane started interpreting the messages I got through this artwork and some of them are quite timely messages for my life. These messages have been lingering in my head over the past few weeks and it is influencing my daily decision making and I guess it does good. And now I would say that these message are from the so called 'higher self'.My mind can be silent and peaceful when 'consciousness' and "chatting in the head" is quieted down and (while doing the collage I found that the mind does become quiet so I could receive messages from higher self. The Genesis art collage method will help you to get yourself connected to your inner self and get necessary messages through the art.I recommend this for all ages and all types of people who are seeking good advice for direction in life. Your inner self knows more than anybody else, including fortune tellers. I made a wish/hope/manifest list that came to ten items. For each item I selected an origami sheet in a different color and kept this color coded list (pink sheet below collage) hidden from view, along with my Genesis Card. That way the list and the Genesis Card wouldn't influence my choice of colors or design as I was working on the collage–I wanted a completely intuitive picture. "While I was making the collage I figured that the red circle in the center would be the key item to focus on in my New Year's list--that item was good health. Below this was the orange circle which shows up as the central theme, repeated in the Genesis Card I had selected face down. Repeated eight times. Orange on my list corresponds to developing strong community ties here in Setagaya, where the Lounge is located! And it's where I know I need to put my energy though it feels like a daunting task at times. "Doing this collage helped me see how to trust that community relations is where I need to put my intentions. And the "Harvest" card selected offers the message to honor the many wonderful friends in our community who have helped spread their excitement about the activities and workshops at Genesis art Lounge. I feel so grateful making this collage, so clear and ready to take on new challenges."To find out how to make the New Year's Collage at Genesis art Lounge see: http://www.genesiscards.com/whatsnew.html Genesis art Lounge 2008-12-04T01:22:34+09:00 The Genesis Workshop on Alishan Market Day! http://www.genesiscards.com/?no=r47 Saturday September 6th 2008– SaitamaIt could have been the beautiful fresh woodsy room we were in above the Alishan Organic Restaurant, the proximity of a peaceful river, the free exchange between nine adults with little collage experience and two kids totally at home with these same art supplies. My friendship with Maine native Jack Bayles, who with his Taiwanese wife Fay own Alishan and Tengu foods, started 21 years ago. I used to make bulk food orders for whole-food-loving students at The House Experiment, my learning center for the creative, culinary and healing arts. That was in the early 1990s and until two days ago I hadn’t seen Jack in all those years. Between the House Experiment years and starting Genesis art Lounge I took 15 years “off” to look for path in life. I thought for many years it was creative writing and journalism but I so wanted children and a lifestyle free of deadlines. Finding art was at first a great relaxation diversion but I didn’t think of it as a life path that would lead to producing the Genesis Cards for creative and intuitive exploration. So when Jack asked me to hold a Genesis workshop on Alishan Restaurant’s busiest day of the year – Market Day – I was more than happy to do so. With this Genesis Way workshop I feel those old and wonderful creative links have come full circle. I discovered that people who are into whole grain living, into biodegradable products and saving the environment, into natural creative alternatives are often the kind of people ready to think outside the box when it comes to making art as well. These Genesis Way pictures made at the Market day workshop speak from heart and soul.Usually at a Genesis creativity workshop, most first-timers can see subtle links between the Genesis Card they’ve selected and the collage they’re making. A Genesis card is turned over only after the art is completed. Take a look at the similarities between art and the Genesis cards selected. Look at the color combinations, the placement of the components, the feeling and energy level of the Genesis Card compared to the artwork made. It’s by looking and comparing that impressions surface that can be translated into words, into thoughts and finally into action that brings art and other creative inspiration back into our lives.
